1956年、セイコーから国産初となる自動巻腕時計「オートマチック」が誕生しました。

まだ腕時計は、手でゼンマイを巻くことが当たり前だった時代。腕の動きによって時計が自らゼンマイを巻き上げるという機構は、当時の人々にとって、きっと未来を感じさせるものだったことでしょう。

こちらは、そんな国産自動巻黎明期に生まれた「オートマチック インジケーター」。

12時位置には、ゼンマイの巻き上がり具合を知らせる小さなインジケーター。柔らかなアイボリーへと変化した文字盤、控えめに輝くゴールドのインデックス、そして14金張りのケースが、1950年代らしい上品で温かな佇まいを見せています。

文字盤、ケース等の状態も良く、当時のセイコー純正尾錠が付いています。

文字盤に残る小さな斑点や色の変化も、この時計が長い年月を歩んできた証。新品には決してつくることのできない、ヴィンテージウォッチならではの景色です。

今では当たり前となった自動巻も、かつては日本の時計職人たちが挑んだ新しい技術でした。

In 1956, Seiko introduced Japan's first domestically produced automatic wristwatch, the Seiko Automatic.

It was an era when winding a watch by hand was simply part of everyday life. A watch that could wind itself through the movement of the wrist must have felt like a glimpse of the future.

This Seiko Automatic Indicator was born during those pioneering years of Japanese automatic watchmaking.

At 12 o'clock sits a small indicator showing the state of wind of the mainspring. The softly aged ivory dial, understated gold-tone indexes, and 14K gold-filled case create the warm and refined character of a watch from the 1950s.

The small marks and changes in tone across the dial are traces of the many decades this watch has lived through. They are something that cannot be recreated — part of the unique beauty that belongs only to a true vintage watch.

Automatic watches are something we take for granted today. But there was a time when this was new technology, and Japanese watchmakers were taking their first steps into a new era.

Nearly seventy years later, this watch continues to mark the passing of time.
